EDCommon Kestrel - Falco tinnunculusEd, or Eddie, is a male Kestrel, hatched in 1997. He was a rescued bird, found flying around Kettering with full falconry furniture (the term given to anklets, jesses, etc) on. He was thin and had probably been on his own for a while. We have been unable to find his owner, but he has settled in well at the Raptor foundation and is a very enthusiastic member of the flying team. Kestrels are the birds that you will see hovering over fields and at the sides of roads. They are the only bird of prey that can truly hover. Whilst they are very commonly seen, their population has steeply declined throughout the country during the past 5 years. |
